More Baby News

Well, we finally made it to the specialist yesterday. It was actually a really long day, since I had my Gestational Diabetes test in the morning, then the other one in the afternoon. I do have GD; they tested my blood 4 times this morning, and my numbers aren't too high, so I'm sure it will be easy to control. I just have to go back to the specialist to learn how to change my diet and test my blood sugar.

We got ok news at the other appointment. The ultrasound tech was wonderful, and she spent a lot of time explaining things and answering our questions. Then the perinatologist came in and looked around more with the ultrasound. My fluid levels are up; they're at 11.1 now, instead of the normal level of 15, which they said was "mildly reduced," but better than before. They are still worried about the baby because he's very small. He's in the 3rd percentile, and the Dr. said she was baffled as to why he's not growing. Usually as soon as she looks at the ultrasound she knows what is wrong, but she said in this case everything else looks good, so she couldn't tell us why. They checked the blood flow to the baby and everything was working well, so they're not sure why he's not growing since he seems to be getting what he needs. They have diagnosed me with Intrauterine Growth Restriction, even thought they don't know what's causing it. I go to the specialist for another ultrasound in 3 weeks, and to see my Dr. once a week so they can monitor the heartbeat, etc. She mentioned the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities (like Down's Syndrome), but I had a blood test for that at about 16 weeks and everything came back normal. Plus I'm low-risk for things like that - young, healthy, no family history, etc., so she said that was on the bottom of her list of concerns. She said they would re-evaluate at my ultrasounds how they want to handle things, like whether they will need to induce early, etc., but for now I'm still on complete bedrest.

Oh - we did get to see his perfect little face in 3D - it was very cool, and he's beautiful. :)

Again, thanks for all the prayers and offers to help - it means SO much.

Oh Anneke.............so much to go through right now. WHew.......we pray for you and your little boy daily. It is so frustrating when doctors arent sure of things. That can be the worst. On the other hand it proves that God is in control and your little boy is in His hands. Any way you can post a picture of him. I have never seen an ultrasound at 6 months.

Anni,
I'm praying for you! I know you & Izaak are trusting in the Lord, but I'm sure you have concerns too. I wish I could be there with you to help out. Tell Izaak from me, he better be taking really good care of you :) Give Shiloh a kiss for me. We will continue to pray for God's grace during this time! Love you!
